Black and white, that’s the trademark of Melinastudios. The expertise is the ability to create an image which is reduced to the essential, but remains in the mind even without colours, in this colourful world. Colour looks come and go, but a black and white photo will always remain timeless. Most of the pictures are taken outdoors, to use the simplicity of the daylight. It is always there – it is either bright or dark – it’s as easy as that. Melinastudios prefers to work in a natural style to show the real beauty of a person and not the make up version.
On set it is all about creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere and about being passionate about it yourself. Then you turn on the music, hit the button and shoot – without wasting hours on it. Working with professional models is so much fun! They have a professional appearance, can pose on demand and they save you the need for a make-up artist and time spent on retouching. At the end of the day, it is essential for emotional and expressive images how you interact as a photographer and how the model feels.
I'm Matt — a natural light lover, Sony World Award winner, teacher, and the person behind Melinastudios.
I believe in simplicity: in natural light, real beauty, and portraits that don’t hide behind heavy retouching or makeup. My work is about stripping things back to the essentials — the person in front of the camera, their story, and the right light. I’m a self-taught photographer. My journey has been one of doing, failing, and getting better every day. Along the way, I learned from some of the best, attending workshops with legends like Annie Leibovitz and Lara Jade.
Today, I work with international modeling agencies from Milan to New York, capturing models and public figures in a way that feels honest, timeless, and real — most often in black and white. Always with the goal of creating images that capture the true essence of the person in front of my camera.Recently, I also discovered my passion for architecture and interior photography, realizing several projects in this field. In addition, I work as a speaker and mentor, helping other photographers grow and refine their craft.
